Profile:
Hello.
My name is Cindy Price and 'Three Cats & A Designer' is
my freelance graphic design business, consisting of
myself - the sole proprietor - and
my three associates: a Russian Blue, a Maine Coon and an
American Shorthair. A little twisted? Maybe. Should have
had kids? Probably. But in a name I wanted to bring a
refreshing edge of creativity and authenticity in this age of
cutting edge technology and electronic savvy. But hey!
I'm working freelance from my own home and they would
be the company I keep 7/24. Well - in addition to my
husband, but that would have made the company name
too long and weird.
I bring to my customers 23 years of experience as a
designer, receiving my education in my point of origin -
Toronto - at George Brown College of Applied Arts &
Technology. There were no computers back then,
everything was hand-to-paper: the fundamentals. I've
done design work with Hiram Walker, Drake Advertising of
Drake International Inc. (a global, multi-service line,
overload organization) and The Montebello Group
(originally structured under the CP Hotel umbrella
establishing full-service executive business centres in the
hotels, the first being The Queen Elizabeth Hotel in
Montreal). I've designed in-house marketing tools,
corporate identities, point-of-purchase and newspaper
advertising.
Moving to the Maritimes in 1989 was never a long-term
goal, but the personality and people behind this city made
it home. Plus, I met my husband here and that pretty
much nailed it. And he had a house. Since then, I've
worked with the Saint John office of the Corporate
Communications Group doing a lot of graphic design
relative to the public relations sector and then Hunter
Marketing & Communications when I developed the
Imperial Theatre logo, working with the general manager
then who facilitated bringing to life the theatre itself as it
was being refurbished. I've done everything from
newspaper advertising to newsletters, brochures and
booklets.
In 1994 I joined Plasticraft Signs & Graphics, a large-
format digital and screenprinting production house in
Saint John. This was a very unique industry in a couple of
ways: designing, with production in mind. Early on I
designed tradeshow booths, logos, signage, point-of-
purchase, vehicle graphics, floor graphics, billboards,
posters, decals, magnets, banners - but what makes this
interesting and has increased my design abilities
exponentially is that it educated me in a whole other
world of production outside of traditional print. And this
is critical to design: knowing and understanding how
something is to be made, designing with that in mind and
realizing what works and doesn't work outside of a pretty
picture on screen or a piece of paper. There is nothing
more disconcerting then having to get back to a customer
and having to negotiate a design to best suit production.
I want my clients to know that what I propose will execute
itself as intended when I present an idea. I can help with
the early stages of concept planning; meeting to
brainstorm and discuss the nature of a project. I also
bring to the table production coordination and project
management which means I will source pricing where
there is the best fit by gathering quotes for the clients
consideration, manage the artwork with the relative
service bureau, coordinate proofing, flag issues and
oversee it's final delivery. Businesses today have enough
on their plate to execute their own mandates. I can take a
project and run with it while the client can continue to run
with the implementation of their own business.
My personal endeavours have included Communications
Chair on a Steering Committee that the now retired
Bishop William Hockin, Anglican Diocese of Fredericton,
had implemented to address and facilitate the
deconsecration of seven (7) church buildings and
subsequent amalgamation of the four previous parishes
(Grand Bay-Westfield, Ketepec, Greenwich and Welsford)
into the new Parish of the Nerepis & St. John. I now sit as
Communications Chair for the parish vestry which is now
overseeing the construction of The Church of the
Resurrection on the four (4) acres purchased off the River
Valley Drive in Grand Bay-Westfield. I've spoken on the
issue on CBC with Paul Castle. I am also on the Diocesan
Communications Advisory Committee under The Rt. Rev'd
Dr. Claude W. Miller. I am with the Women's Altar Guild as
well as having been commissioned as a Priest's Server.
I live in Acamac on a small cove off the Saint John River
with my husband, Dale, along with Sharky, Gus and
Westfield. But you knew that already. Someday my
husband would like to have a dog. I can't see that
happening. Until then; he just golfs a lot.
I invite the opportunity to help you with your graphic
needs.
I'd like to finish with these words of inspiration taken from
Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".
"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from
here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,"
said the Cat.
"I don't much care where -" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
"Just so long as I get SOMEWHERE," Alice added as an
explanation.
"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk
long enough."
