David Barry is a nationally recognized practitioner of business law. His special expertise includes corporate finance and securities law, information technology, privacy and related intellectual property issues.
Born in Saint John, David received his B.Sc. (Honours) in Mathematics from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1966 and his M.Sc. (Computer Science) from the University of Alberta in 1968. While lecturing in Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick, he decided to enter law school and obtained his LL.B in 1972. David was admitted to the bar later that same year.
In 1981, after practicing law for nine years, he, his brother John and others decided to form the firm now known as Barry Spalding. David was awarded the distinction of Queens Council in 1989. Professionally, he has held an active interest in the area of information technology and his IT professional memberships have included the Canadian Information Processing Society, the Association for Computing Machinery and the Canadian Society for the Advancement of Legal Technology. In 1994 David was awarded the Dr. Stuart S. Peters award by the Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce in recognition of outstanding leadership in fostering trade development in Atlantic Canada.
David is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Saint John Law Society, the Law Society of New Brunswick, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the Canadian IT Lawyers Association and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He has served on the councils of the Law Society of New Brunswick, the Canadian Bar Association New Brunswick Branch and the national organization, is a past governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation, and is currently a director of CanLII as the Law Society of New Brunswick's nominee.
He has presented a number of seminars for the legal profession as well as organizations and associations who continue to seek his assistance and advice in his areas of expertise as well as technical innovations related to the practice of law.
Outside the Office
David has always been active in his community. Some of his contributions include: President and director of the Saint John Board of Trade; Chairman and director of Enterprise Saint John, the community economic and development agency; President and director of the Saint John Cooperative Supply Depot Inc.; President and director of the New Brunswick Museum; Governor of the United Way of Saint John; President and director of the YM-YWCA Saint John; director and Vice-President of Saint John and NB Associations of Community Living: director of Housing Alternatives Inc.; Vice President and director of Family Services Saint John; director of Saint John Learning Exchange and director of St. Rose Parish Community Housing Inc.
He is currently the Chairperson and a director of Saint John Airport Inc., southern New Brunswick's regional airport; and Chairperson and a director of the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, and a Co-Chairperson of the Foundation's capital campaign.
David and his wife, Jane, are the proud parents of five boys. They also have six grandchildren.

John Barry has become a cornerstone of the law profession in New Brunswick, serving both province and country with excellence and skill. Areas of expertise include civil litigation, administrative law, professional negligence, insurance law, product liability claims, personal injury, malpractice, and the defence of medical negligence related hospital claims.
John received his B.A. in 1965 and his B.C.L. in 1966 from the University of New Brunswick and was admitted to the New Brunswick bar in the same year. In 1977, he was appointed Queens Counsel. John and his brother, David, along with another partner established Barry and O'Neil (now known as Barry Spalding) in 1981. Throughout his legal career, he has held numerous positions and served on several legal committees including both provincial and national membership in the Canadian Bar Association and chair of its Communication and Health Law committees.
John's expertise in the health field led to his appointment as chair of the Legal Counsel Section of the Federation Medical Licensing Authorities of Canada in 2000 and in 2006. His tireless work as a Council Member for the Law Society of New Brunswick has spanned four terms, including groundbreaking work as co-chairman on the Integration of the Practice of Law in the Two Official Languages Committee.
John is a as Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the most prestigious legal organizations in North America. He currently serves as Chair of the Atlantic Provinces Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
John P. Barry is a true community leader who has freely given of his time and energy to a number of advocacy groups at the local, provincial and national levels including founding president of The New Brunswick Kidney Foundation and the Canadian Red Cross. John is also a past chairman of the Planning Advisory Committee for the City of Saint John and can be frequently heard providing legal commentary for CBC Radio "Mainstreet" program.
John is married to Charlene Barry, a local artist and art teacher. They have seven children and eleven grandchildren.

While he practices in the areas of administrative, utility regulation, commercial, and commercial litigation, Peter is well recognized for his skills as an arbitrator and as an advocate in employment and business matters.
Professional Experience
Born in Saint John, Peter received his B.Sc, M.B.A. and his LL.B from Dalhousie University. He was admitted to the Nova Scotia bar in 1981 and the New Brunswick bar in 1982. His contributions to the profession were recognized when he was awarded the Q.C. designation in 1997. Other affiliations include the Canadian Bar Association, the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the CLE Foundation, and the Saint John Law Society.
Always active in his profession, Peter has represented the NB CBA Branch on national committees and currently represents the Law Society of NB on the Federation of Law Society Task Force on Multi-Disciplinary Practice. Within New Brunswick he has served as a Member and Chair of CLE. As well, he has served as a Council Member and on the Executive of the Law Society as Treasurer, Vice-President and President in addition to extensive involvement with various committees.
In addition to his professional activities, Peter has long been active in the community serving at local, provincial and national levels with a number of organizations as a board member and in a number of executive capacities. At one time or another he has devoted time to the Saint John Board of Trade, Family Services of Saint John, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Romero House, the Saint John Business Anti-Poverty Initiative, and the Lancaster Minor Basketball Association to name a few. Peter has recently completed his term as Director and Chair of the Saint John Port Authority. He has been involved for over 25 years with the United Way as a canvasser, Board Member and Executive Member, both locally and nationally, and is a Life Member of the Board of Governors. Currently he serves as a Director of the Saint John Development Corporation.
Peter and his wife, Martha, are the parents of five children.

Holding a distinguished record in the practice of law, Duane McAfee's areas of expertise include litigation, corporate law, personal injury, torts, commercial, and real estate law.
Born in Saint John, Duane received his B.B.A in 1984 and an LL.B. in 1987 from the University of New Brunswick. After being admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 1988, he began working at Barry Spalding and later became a partner in the firm. Professionally, Duane is affiliated with the Canadian Bar Association, the Barristers' Society of New Brunswick, and the Saint John Law Society.
Duane has been involved in his community, and with numerous advocacy groups, since the start of his law career including chair of the Kidney Foundation and board member for Second Stage Housing, Epilepsy New Brunswick, and First Night Saint John. Currently, he is co-chair of the Mental Health Tribunal.
Duane is married and boasts a love of sports. As a father of three, much of his time is devoted to coaching basketball and soccer.
